BAT to occupy Amsterdam House at V&A

Amsterdam House, the first phase of the new mixed use Canal District at the V&A Waterfront was announced today. The multi-national British American Tobacco South Africa will occupy the south wing of the building in the new district and completion is expected in November 2016.

New home for Absa at Bridge Park

Absa Bank is set to consolidate its 14 offices in the Western Cape to the new Bridge Park buildings in Century City, Cape Town.

Absa has signed a 10-year lease for 14,000m2 of offices in the newly completed Bridge Park office development, in what is believed to be the largest letting deal seen in Cape Town for at least five years. The buildings were developed in a joint venture between Rabie Property Group and Growthpoint Properties at a cost of R450m.

Drostdy Hotel scoops Eastern Cape Institute of Architects Regional Award

The redevelopment of the Drostdy Hotel in Graaff-Reinet by dhk was recognised with a Regional Award for Architecture from the Eastern Cape Institute of Architects at a ceremony held in Port Elizabeth last night.

“We’re delighted that the Drostdy Hotel has been recognised by the Institute. It was a significant project in terms of its rich heritage and required sensitive restoration alongside contemporary architectural design to create a seamless 5 star luxury hotel experience,” said Renske Haller, managing director of dhk, who led the project from the company’s Cape Town office.

The awards programme recognises and promotes excellence in architecture, with the regional winners going on to compete nationally in the South African Institute of Architects awards next year.

The Centenary launches

The Centenary, Modderfontein

On Tuesday the Hong Kong-listed Shanghai Zendai launched the luxury residential estate The Centenary, designed by dhk.

Construction of the first phase of the development is due to start during the first quarter of 2016, with completion expected early in 2017 and will comprise 150 apartments spread across three blocks of six-storey buildings set in expansive landscaped grounds.

The project is the first phase of the new R87bn Modderfontein city development to the northeast of Johannesburg.

New HQ for Pearson

Pearson Southern Africa, which is part of a leading global education business, has relocated its headquarters from Pinelands to occupy a single floor of 3,180sqm in the refurbished AAA grade Media City building in Cape Town.

The new offices were designed by dhk to accommodate 335 people in a contemporary new working environment that met international office design standards.
