dhk welcomes new partner, Martin Lardner-Burke
We are proud to announce that dhk senior associate, Martin Lardner-Burke, has been appointed as a partner. He also moves from the Cape Town studio to lead the teams working on our ever-expanding project portfolio in Johannesburg.
Martin joined dhk in 2017 and has since been integral in notable projects like Battery Park, 32 Napier and Old Cape Quarter. Battery Park, in particular, has been widely published in local and international media and has won several prestigious awards, including a Fulton Award, SAPOA Award for Innovative Excellence, and was a finalist in the A+ Architizer Awards.
Martin is an architect with a broad range of experience both in the United Kingdom and South Africa. After graduating from the University of Cape Town with distinction in 1999, Martin looked abroad for international experience. He won several scholarships to read an MPhil in Environmental Design in Architecture at the University of Cambridge and later completed his RIBA Part lll. Subsequently, he resided in the UK to embed his knowledge and establish a solid foundation in environmental and international design. During his nine-year stint in the UK, he worked for a prominent London-based architectural firm. Here, he won several awards including RIBA’s Best Educational Building and Best Environmentally Sustainable University Building.
Martin is a member of SACAP, SAIA, CIfA, ARB and RIBA. His passion and expertise in sustainable design and BIM technology, along with his attention to detail, lead to well-conceived and well-executed architectural solutions. Apart from practising as an architect, Martin has lectured at Cambridge University and UCT.
