Event | Foreshore Freeway… Unfinished Business
In 2016, the City of Cape Town launched a two-stage competition. It called for solutions to transform the incomplete Foreshore Freeway, as well as, ideas to revitalize 10 hectres of the CBD.
Several ambitious firms submitted proposals. Subsequently, a shortlist of six consortia entered a final round of submissions, interviews and financial analysis. However, the entire tender process was cancelled as a result of a backdrop of the City of Cape Town maladministration. Thus, the opportunity to relieve traffic congestion and provide real social transformation through affordable housing remains unrealized. The moderated panel discussion asks questions about the structure and public sector governance.
The discussion brings together representatives from Foreshore Freeway consortia and shortlisted proposals. dhk partner and Head of Urban Design Guy Briggs, who also steered the CITYLIFT project, joins the panel. The discussion will also include questions from the audience.
Complimentary drinks will be provided and the event is free. However, guests must book via Eventbrite.
