Amandla SafeHub

Amandla Edufootball is an international NPO based in Cape Town tackling social inequality in South Africa’s townships through its combination of education and football development, drawing young people off the streets into a safe and enriching environment.

This approach is activated through the innovative Safe-Hub model, focusing on the provision of a football turf with floodlights, and a clubhouse/pavilion that provides a safe place for local youth to gather, socialise, learn and develop.

The building is formed by three main elements; a robust ground floor building, an upper level of a more lightweight construction with timber cladding and glazed walls and a carapace-like roof that encloses the upper level. The ground floor comprises a reception with access control, changing rooms and café with outdoor seating terrace. The upper level provides offices for AMANDLA’s team and their development programmes as well as shared space for other NGOs. A covered walkway along the upper level forms a viewing platform, and the full height glazed wall provides the offices with ample daylight and views to the field.
