Mandela Rhodes Place

The Mandela Rhodes Place mixed-use development was the first phase of a broader urban renewal scheme, which came about as a result of a limited five practice competition.

The complex of buildings creates a vibrant activity mix and the new additions to the complex maximise the full available bulk allowed on the site. The buildings vary in age, height and historical significance, and were retained either in whole or in part in order to maintain the existing streetscape and historical integrity of the precinct.

The residential complex comprises a total of 180 luxury apartments and penthouses and approximately 300 parking bays. The upper floors of the Kendal, Fairbairn and Court Chambers Buildings have been converted to apartments facing St Georges and Wale Streets respectively, while the ground floors have been opened up to increase visibility of the active retail edges. A contemporary residential tower with 42 luxury apartments and rises a further 10 floors above the existing building to a height of 60 metres (the inner-city height restriction).
