Move Hotel (DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel)

The 200-key four-star DoubleTree formed the first phase of the development of a larger complex of buildings in Mogliano, Veneto (some 15 km from Venice), Italy.

The first phase included a commercial office building and hotel, which form a semi-circular composition around an existing villa at the focal point. To keep within the two-storey height restriction on street side, the building has a third storey below natural ground level which opens out onto a level courtyard on the inner side the complex.

Entry to the hotel is via a central steel and glass porte-cochère into a glazed triple-volume lobby, on axis with the villa. The main staircase takes advantage of the views to the central garden and is extended vertically to form a lightweight transparent, mesh-clad “campanile” around which the buildings pivot. Externally, the two upper floors of rooms are defined by an alternating pattern of modular, vertical fenestration and natural timber panel infill, to bring a sense of a calm, natural warmth and scale to the buildings.
