Invest in the future of architecture
An appeal for support to our architectural community
We’re delighted that one of our Associates, Ismaeel Davids, has been offered a place on the master’s degree programme at the Norman Foster Institute on Sustainable Cities in Madrid. At dhk, we prioritise personal and professional development, creating and supporting opportunities for growth. This is an incredible opportunity, and we are fully behind Ismaeel as he embarks on this profound learning journey.
Ismaeel will be among the first cohort to embark on this new programme. Norman Foster writes: “The future of our society is the future of our cities—they are our greatest invention.” And yet, cities and societies are undergoing seismic transformations arising from the climate crisis, inequity, dwindling resources and rapidly changing economies. During the year-long programme Ismaeel and his colleagues will be tasked to consider design solutions to these conditions, engaging with planners and managers grappling these forces.
However, his first challenge – a significant one – is to secure the funding he needs for his year abroad. He has raised a portion of funds through his own efforts and we have matched that investment. But he still has some way to go to cover the full costs.
This communication is a call to our community to help plug the gap. We’re endorsing Ismaeel’s crowdfunding campaign to help him achieve a funding goal of R150 000. Please donate whatever you can, to help this remarkable young man fly the flag for emerging South African architects on one of the most prestigious platforms our industry can offer.
