Tower Docks
Venice, Italy

The proposal for Tower Docks envisaged a 13 000 m2 mixed-used development located on the mainland of Venice (Mestre) north of Italy, on the banks of the Canal Salso. The proposal incorporated new offices, commercial facilities and a residential tower. The building was designed to reference the existing urban context of commercial and industrial spaces, capping building heights at a maximum of 45 metres, while simultaneously accommodating new contemporary architecture in a combination that enhances the connection between old and new.

The base of the building is a two-storey podium comprising parking, a boat sheltering business, a cafe and main lobby entrance. The flat roof of the podium is used as green open space and platform for the new office towers above. The residential tower is sculpted to mimic the sails of a ship, rising to a height that maximises views over Mestre and the surrounding countryside, and from the top, views of Venice and the Dolomite mountains.
