The project to refurbish Nobu at the five-star One&Only Cape Town hotel at the V+A Waterfront was a collaboration between dhk Interior Design (dhki) and Rockwell Group, the renowned interior designers for the Nobu brand. dhki was the architect of record, focusing on construction documentation, implementation and overseeing the design’s execution.

The One&Only Cape Town is a long-standing feature at the V+A Waterfront, with a reputation as one of the most prestigious hotels in the country. Nobu is a prestigious global brand. The restaurant needed to be refreshed and updated to a more contemporary aesthetic.

The core idea behind the Rockwell Group’s design was to integrate Cape Town's local essence into every detail, from joinery to artwork, to reflect the unique craftsmanship of the region. dhki worked closely with Rockwell Group to commission local suppliers and artisans who could achieve the high standards set by Nobu and the Kerzner Group.

One of the project’s standout features was the commitment to scour the local design industry to find local crafters and artists who could produce the finishes to required exceptional quality standards. dhki collaborated with skilled joiners for intricate woodwork and local artists for bespoke tapestries This approach had a positive impact on the local economy.
